Even though winter offers some of the toughest road conditions, we still spend a lot of time on the road for holiday trips and shopping in addition to our daily commutes. As a result, you will want to make sure that your car is prepared to meet the hazardous winter weather and road conditions so you can continue to feel confident and in control while on the road. Here are some tips on how to prepare your car for winter from us at Bush Auto Place.
Check fluid levels – You will want to make sure you have adequate levels of antifreeze, windshield wiper fluid, and oil before hitting the road—especially before long car trips.
Check tire treads – Insert a penny into your tire’s tread to check your tread’s depth. To do this, push the penny into the tire’s tread with Lincoln’s head first. If you can still see Lincoln’s entire head, it’s time for new tires. This is especially important in the winter because good tire treads increase traction and stability while on icy or snow-covered roads.
General preparations – You will also want to make some general preparations before driving around in wintery conditions. For example, make sure to have an ice scraper, an extra jacket, and snacks in the car in case you’re stuck in some bad weather and traffic. In addition, try to keep your gas tank at least half full, so you won’t have to worry if you get stuck in traffic.
If your vehicle needs some pre-winter maintenance, feel free to stop by Bush Auto Place. We are always happy to help.
